Little is quite as luxurious as it feels as the classic men’s cashmere sweater.
Whether it’s a turtle- or mock neck, crewneck, V-neck or vest, these sweaters are woven to flatter the physique while looking and feeling divinely soft and supple. They’re also one of the most versatile garments a man can own despite their preppy overtones.
Here are just five suggestions for this four-season charmer:
Under a suit
When you layer a sweater over a dress shirt and under a suit, it gives you the same polish and elegance as wearing a tie without the hassle of tying it and the constriction around your throat.
Choose a sweater in a contrasting color to make its sheen and quality show in sharper relief.
With a baseball cap
This combo is modern and casual but still has some classic overtones. It’s more effective when the cap and sweater are the same color, and when they do it gives you more license with the logo on the cap — almost anything will work.
Under a leather jacket
If wearing cashmere with a button-down shirt, jeans and loafers makes you feel a bit too basic, throw on your sexiest leather jacket to give yourself some edge. There are even a few cashmere and leather jackets on the market if you’re looking for something smooth yet spiky.
As your base layer
Cashmere’s inherent warmth and softness is something you want to have next to your skin (or at least over an undershirt). It’s a great choice as your base layer on those days when you’re going to be going inside and out or you’re dealing with variable temps — especially if it’s a turtleneck.
With cowboy boots
This one may seem like a little bit of a stretch but cashmere looks great with jeans and so do cowboy boots, ergo, they can be part of the same practical yet elevated ensemble.
