Follow These Traits to Success

Success — it means something different to everyone.

It can mean earning enough money, reaching your career goals or having a home and family. It is, in fact, more of a journey than a destination. And it is the journey that helps you along the way to reach your goals and thrive.

Although it is personal and different to each person, there are still so many books out there claiming to have the answer to success.

But rather than defining success, we do know that there are a few tried and true habits that many successful people have in common. And if you’re looking for success, perhaps adopting a few of these traits may steer you in the right direction.

Be passionate: Do what makes you happy. If you can do what fills you with joy, and create a career out of it, you will be more creative, more motivated, more tuned-in and more likely to be financially and personally prosperous.

Focus: This always precedes success, it requires a mission and a vision. And staying focused on your plan for success is crucial. If you can, take time periodically to assess where you are in your plan and what you need to do to achieve it.

Keep your goal fresh and reevaluate when needed.

Be persistent: Any great endeavor requires passion and persistence to be successful. Although you will experience setbacks and failures, you also will find success and triumph if you persist. Nobody ever won a race by giving up.

Change your perspective: Sometimes along the journey, you have to change your perspective to turn a situation around. Don’t be afraid to rework your goals and plan.

Being flexible can keep you from missing out on opportunities and being creative.

Stop looking for the easy way: You need to put in the work to be successful, period. You won’t find success in a get-rich-quick scheme.

Ask anyone who has reached the level of success you seek and most of them will tell you it took hard work and dedication, not shortcuts.

Build your expertise: There always is something to learn and improve upon.

If you run online stores, test out different marketing ideas. If you’re a writer, attend conferences and meet and learn from other writers. Building your expertise requires effort, like taking classes and trying new approaches. Watch for advances in technology that will help you along the way.

Enjoy yourself: If the journey to achievement becomes too tedious, succeeding becomes more challenging. You need to have some fun along the way — take time to enjoy the rewards of your journey and treat yourself.

Getting out of work mode also helps you prevent burnout, which can have a negative effect on your success.
