Pack Smart for your Arizona Vacay

How do you vacation in style in Arizona? No matter what area of our incredibly diverse state you will be traveling to, some basic principles still apply.

It’s important to pack clothing to keep you cool and protect you from the sun. Arizona has numerous sunny days whether you are at the Grand Canyon or visiting the Phoenix or Tucson area.

1. Wear lightweight, breathable clothing. Invest in linen or cotton shirts and pants. A lightweight linen blouse in a neutral color never goes out of style. A linen blouse also can be worn open as a shirt/jacket over a tank top or camisole.

2. A sun hat or a cap is a must! Hats come in a huge variety of styles and colors. A packable straw hat always works and can be worn on many different excursions.

Depending on your personal style, a casual bucket hat or a more sophisticated wide-brim hat will work. Even a baseball cap can protect you from the sun.

3. Plan for cool evenings and air-conditioned buildings. A light jacket or a sweater is a must for a trip to State 48! Restaurants and shopping malls are known for keeping temperatures on the chilly side.

If you are traveling to some of our higher elevations, the temperature can drop 20 or more degrees from daytime to evening. This is why layering is so important.

4. If you are hiking, choose moisture-wicking materials. Remember, it’s a dry heat in Arizona!

Because of the arid climate, you may not be aware of how much you are perspiring even while doing a casual stroll through some beautiful desert botanical gardens. There are many brands of moisture-wicking clothes available, and some even have a built in SPF in them.

Arizona is a beautiful state to visit any time of year. With some planning and forethought, your vacation is sure to be a success. Visit your favorite department store or boutique for great fashion advice.
